Healing Breast Cancer Tumors Using Functional Medicine with Sheryl Malin, Researcher, Author and Champion for Quality Of Life.
Four years ago Sheryl Malin was diagnosed with three tumours in her breast. Sheryl held the past experience of her father and all his siblings dying from cancer. She worked in the medical field and was acutely aware of side effects and long term damage caused by some conventional treatments.
“The most inflammatory substance as far as I’m concerned is cow’s milk. There is no animal on GOD’s earth that has animal milk, any milk at all, after weaning; only human beings.”

As a physician, Dr. Patrick Kingsley practiced nutritional and environmental medicine, worked in Anaesthetics then Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He worked in a pharmaceutical company for eight years, finally settling into single handed, rural dispensing, general practice. This is where Dr. Kingsley really began to learn why people get sick and what it truly takes for them to get better.
Wendy Banting, Author of Wake Up and Eat The Kale, shares the story of her journey through advanced breast cancer.
She speaks about using a specialized macrobiotic diet, conventional treatments, and natural therapies and including energy work through yoga. Wendy shares her experience in traveling out of the United Stated to attend sessions for with a faith healer, a therapy wrought in mystery.
Wendy found her own way to healing and through sharing her story of success over advanced breast cancer, she hopes to encourage you to find therapies that resonate with you and heal you.
Even though Dr. Veronique Desaulniers was eating organic food and living a healthy lifestyle, 24 years into her Chiropractic practice she found a lump in her breast and was subsequently diagnosed with breast cancer.
After extensive research and reflection into her personal situation, Dr. V. learned there were still some issues which were causing her body to be out of balance.
Dr. V changed several things, including having a hidden cavitation repaired. She used Bloodroot and Black Salve and applied it to the tumor in her breast. She later realized the product she used was inferior and caused only part of the breast tumor to fall out. She chose to let the wound heal instead of applying more salve and after two years, the tumor started growing again.
Listen in as Dr. V. shares exactly what she did to remove her own breast tumor completely.
Dr. V. also shares details of her seven essentials for healing your body in this short interview.
Diane’s humorous and joyful spirit shines through in this beautiful and sometimes funny video interview below about her journey through breast cancer. Her story moves through pressure from doctors to have double mastectomy and oophorectomy (removal of ovaries) to a compromise that included lumpectomy and localized radiation only. First though, Diane took six months to research, learn, find support and build a foundation for healing.
Doctors partly based their decision that Diane should have double (or single) mastectomy on their false assumption that she was positive for the BRCA1 gene. Three months into Diane’s six month experiment on the Macrobiotic diet she got authorization to take the test, which turned out to be negative.
After she found a lump, which turned into two, the stage one diagnosis turned into stage two because of the presence of multiple tumours. Even with the massive fear that surrounds a breast cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment, Diane was able to recognize that in order to make the right decisions, she must remain calm and in control. There are a lot of updates and warnings on this post. Please read them all then watch Elaine’s very informative story below.
PLEASE SEE BELOW THIS POST FOR ALL UPDATES AND WARNINGS ABOUT USING KETOGENIC DIET WHEN YOU ARE SICK.
Here’s my take on the modified ketogenic diet for cancer:
It’s healthy, it’s healing, it’s all the foods we should be eating anyway. It lacks all the foods that don’t promote health or are common allergens like dairy, sugar and genetically modified grains. It’s low in sugar and carbohydrates. It’s chocked full of essential proteins, fats, minerals, vitamins and phytochemicals and if you add a large variety of raw organic plant foods like a satiating amount of raw fats and tons of leafy greens that promote your health and add herbs that help to kill cancer cells, doesn’t that sound like a good way to help your body reverse dis-ease? Diet rules!!
One dangerous issue with ketogenic diets for cancer is when people lose too much weight and start cachexia because they are not eating enough fat, they are not eating enough food and they are not eating often enough. You must eat a lot more food on the ketogenic diet, especially if you eat a lot of raw food, as there is more water in raw food and you feel full faster. Several of the people who share their story on this website have commented that they had to almost double the amount of food they were eating to stop losing weight. You also have to eat more of the right amount of fats (see below).
What does the ‘modified‘ keto mean?
It means you will learn a lot if you read Elaine Cantin’s book (link below) on how she used the modified ketogenic diet (without allergens like dairy!) which resulted in her breast cancer tumor going away twice, hopefully forever!!
A bit more about using raw fats helping to reduce weight loss during ketogenic diet:
The abstract below explains how adding mct or medium chain triglycerides (fats) reduced weight loss in tumour bearing mice.
Medium chain triglycerides are abundant in raw organic coconut fat.
Reduction of weight loss and tumour size in a ca… [Br J Cancer. 1987] – PubMed – NCBI http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3620317
As always, love yourself and follow your body’s messages. If you are losing too much weight that is not a good thing. Please see your physician and supportive health practitioners for advice. You can’t do this alone. Make sure you choose practitioners who are knowledgeable and who support you in every way.
Here’s Elaine’s famous story:
Elaine Cantin was diagnosed with breast cancer and within one week was rushed into have a surgical lumpectomy. Doctors wanted to immediately begin ‘aggressive’ radiation and chemotherapy and this idea frightened Elaine, as she had seen many family members and friends die. Elaine said, “I thought that if I had to go, I would not be going that way.”
Shortly after her lumpectomy the tumor grew back to the size of a small egg. She began researching the Ketogenic diet and after modifying it to remove several allergenic foods, Elaine’s tumor shrunk to the size of a chick pea and then disappeared. Elaine has been told by her oncologist that she is in remission.
Elaine also has been testing the diet with her fifteen year old son who has been taking insulin for Type 1 Diabetes since he was three years old. As long as he is able to stay on the diet, his blood sugars level and he is able to stop taking insulin. Elaine is conducting further research to see if her modified ketogenic diet can actually reverse Type 1 Diabetes.
Elaine shares her encouraging and uplifting story of how she is healing with breast cancer in this short video interview (below) with Incredible Healing Journals.
UPDATE June 2014: “Here is a message directly from Elaine: “
“Recently there have been a couple of people getting on my keto diet and doing what was reported as “miraculously” well…feeling great too. However, since they were real sick to start with, they were also very skinny or they lost weight at the start of the keto diet if they did not eat enough since it acts as an appetite suppressant.
Their medical doctors advised them to get off my keto diet and load up on carbs and sugar to gain some weight. A couple of people died very quickly after following what they were told and I was told one person is now very weak. My keto diet is non calorie restricted and you can maintain or gain weight while on the keto diet if done properly. You want to feed the healthy cells and starve the cancer and prevent cachexia AND NOT the opposite that occurs when you feed the cancer with the sugar and carbs.
A reference from my book that explains this scientifically:
Reduction of weight loss and tumour size in a cachexia model by a high fat diet.”
UPDATE June 2013: Here is a message directly from Elaine: “For those who missed my previous post or if I was not clear enough, I am doing great. 🙂 I was diagnosed with advanced cancer via biopsy and ultrasound on 3/15/2013 and on 4/19/2013, my CT scan report showed that I only had a small nodule left that could no longer be confirmed with certainty as cancer. Thank God for my diet! Love & health to all of you. ♥” Elaine Cantin
UPDATE April 2013: Elaine is battling breast cancer for the second time. We’ll keep you updated as she progresses in healing.
