Dr Caldwell Esselstyn’s 20 year nutritional heart health study resulted in a plant based nutrition plan that is proven to stop and reverse even advanced coronary disease, Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease plan.
In 2007, armed with data from his comprehensive nutrition study, Dr. Esselstyn released The Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease book.
Dr. Esselstyn’s patients came to him with advanced coronary artery disease. Despite aggressive treatments such as bypasses and angioplasties, five patients were told by their cardiologists, they had less than a year to live.
Within months of starting Dr. Esselstyn’s plan, cholesterol levels, angina symptoms and blood flow improved dramatically.
After twelve years, seventeen patients who stayed on the plan had no further cardiac events and survived beyond twenty years free of symptoms.
After five years on Dr. Esselstyn’s heart saving plan, the average total cholesterol levels of his research group dropped from 246 milligrams per deciliter (240 is considered high risk) to 137 mg/dL (under 150 is confirmed in cultures with no heart disease).
In the years leading up to the study, the seventeen patients had experienced 49 cardiac events and aggressive treatments.
After beginning the eating plan, there were no more cardiac events in the group for a 12-year period.
Angiograms taken during the study show a widening of the coronary arteries, improved blood flow and reversal of heart disease.

My name is Zahra* and I am a warrior! I am sharing my story in the hope that if you or a loved one has been recently diagnosed with cancer, it will take you beyond the illness and help you through the difficult days ahead.
Exactly four months after my wedding, I started having killing headaches. I was in great shape otherwise, so I was not particularly concerned when the emergency room doctor told me he needed further scans. The medical consensus was that I had probably too much stress due to being distant from my spouse (visa issues!) and being newly-wed so…! However, my internist ordered a battery of tests. Even though everything else was ruled out, he was as shocked as I, when the CT scan showed evidence of a metastatic disease.
Life turned surreal as the medical tests began to determine what kind of cancer I had. It then became affirmed that I had a brain tumour!
The days passed in slow motion as I waited to find out whether I was a candidate for surgery and then for the date of the surgery to arrive. When the details of the surgery were explained to me, they literally took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes. Although there was no evidence of cancer outside the tumour, the doctors recommended chemotherapy following the surgery. Again, I was absolutely terrified but I felt I had no choice. Three long months of chemo passed; it was pretty terrible, but not nearly as bad as I had imagined.
The diagnosis and treatments wreaked havoc on my world. Perhaps because I was accustomed to being strong, self-reliant, in control and, of course, a little pushy. Suddenly, I was not in control; instead of giving help and support, I was accepting it. That too - from my parents who literally looked 40 years older in those 4 months! Without much warning, I was too tired and weak to walk around; instead of running miles, I was in bed too exhausted to even lift a book. The next thing I knew, I had changed from a healthy, newly-was, 22 year old into a cancer patient, a frail, fatigued and, once chemo began, somewhat bald, old lady.
During this period, life revolved around cancer.
No matter what your state of health, the diagnosis of cancer is overwhelming for the patient and for everyone close. Anxiety, sadness and depression are common for most cancer patients, and I was no exception. However, one fine morning, I finally thought to myself - no matter what, I have to win!
Over five years, with chemo, radiation, immunotherapy and 13 surgeries - from a brain tumour to leukaemia, the battle still goes on! I suppose it is natural to take stock of the past when the future is so seriously threatened. Strange as it may sound, I feel like one very lucky woman: I am blessed with parents and friends to care for me; one special one who has grown from a friend by chance to a sister by choice! I had access to skilled and compassionate medical help from Tanzania to India! Not forgetting my teachers who try to understand my situation and help me pursue my goals!
Indeed life is uncertain and fragile for all of us.
In our society, it is easy to go through life rushing to get things done. Cancer is a reminder to live each day fully; to seize the opportunity to express love and appreciation to those we care about, to take the time to stop and notice little things that can make life so enjoyable, to help others and to remember to be thankful for whatever good fortune we have.
Love you my mama, papa and bro! Oh and did you think I forgot you Afsheen?
Thank you for all that you do! I am sorry for the days that I am low and tend to vent out on you! I only vent out on you because you are my source of strength.
*Names changed for privacy.
For all of you reading this - we are gateways to our emotions! Grief, anger, regret, sorrow and even pain! Nothing is strong enough to break you - except yourself! So love, live and laugh!

Now Angel was told she was ‘Stage IV’ and was given only 3 weeks to live. Angel’s doctor told her to go home and be with her family because there was nothing more they could do for her.
Returning home made Angel stronger and her conviction and promise to herself that she would not give up, became the foundation upon which Angel was able to eradicate uterine cancer from her body. She had help, through the spirit of her late Mother, Angel remembered her roots to herbal medicine and began educating herself until she knew enough to treat herself with Native American Herbs.

After extensive research and reflection into her personal situation, Dr. V. learned there were still some issues which were causing her body to be out of balance.
Dr. V changed several things, including having a hidden cavitation repaired. She used Bloodroot and Black Salve and applied it to the tumor in her breast. She later realized the product she used was inferior and caused only part of the breast tumor to fall out. She chose to let the wound heal instead of applying more salve and after two years, the tumor started growing again.

Diane’s humorous and joyful spirit shines through in this beautiful and sometimes funny video interview below about her journey through breast cancer. Her story moves through pressure from doctors to have double mastectomy and oophorectomy (removal of ovaries) to a compromise that included lumpectomy and localized radiation only. First though, Diane took six months to research, learn, find support and build a foundation for healing.
Doctors partly based their decision that Diane should have double (or single) mastectomy on their false assumption that she was positive for the BRCA1 gene. Three months into Diane’s six month experiment on the Macrobiotic diet she got authorization to take the test, which turned out to be negative.
After she found a lump, which turned into two, the stage one diagnosis turned into stage two because of the presence of multiple tumours. Even with the massive fear that surrounds a breast cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment, Diane was able to recognize that in order to make the right decisions, she must remain calm and in control. “I joyfully sent yet another story of healing from advanced cervical cancer naturally. Everyone’s journey is perfectly unique. My healing was not nested in the physical things I did; it blossomed from a surrender and a commitment to love myself with the time I thought remained. To anyone reading this with cancer, cancer is an experience and a teacher, if you allow it to be. I am grateful for my experience and the chance to really LIVE my life. ANYONE has the potential to heal. If I could heal with limited resources living the oft chaotic life of a single mother of four children…….so can you! They said it couldn’t be done until the fool who didn’t know it couldn’t be done came along and did it. I am, with the utmost gratitude for my life that ‘fool.’
I did not climb a mountain or find a secluded months-long retreat. I did not learn Yoga or wear a turban. I did not chant a mantra or meet with a passel of healers. I simply had no time for these valuable but elusive tools. I am not wealthy nor have I been a perfect wife, mother or even person. I however have healed from advanced cervical cancer naturally. I healed in the context of a busy often chaotic everyday life of a single mom with four kids. Even better, I had a baby at 43 years of age, four years after a diagnosis of advanced cervical cancer. Hello Everyone,
I decided to write this post because I read TONS of forum board discussions and articles and posts that were extremely helpful and comforting for my own healing process and decided to try to do the same thing for someone else.
I had been sexually active for approximately 6 years and I went in for my first pap smear at the age of 24. I got the dreaded phone call saying “Your pap results are abnormal. You have cervical dysplasia. This is pre-cancerous”. My heart froze. CANCER. what? I was scared out of my mind.
I did a ton of research and basically became an expert in everything related to the cervix and it’s abnormalities. My gynecologist told me I should come in for a colposcopy. Again, i was so scared.
The colposcopy results came back and I had CINII, stage 2 cervical dysplasia. She said that CIN2 was extremely dangerous and that she didn’t even think cryosurgery was going to help (during cryosurgery they freeze off the affected parts of your skin with liquid nitrogen and then they fall off with pain, watery discharge and a lot of discomfort) so she told me I needed to get LEEP (laser surgical removal or a part of my cervix) in other words she wanted to chop part of my cervix right off.
